A brief description of programme

  • IIT Kanpur – La Trobe University Research Academy Joint Ph.D. program

    One of the major focus of the academy is to engage large number of faculty members and students from IIT Kanpur and La Trobe University to carry out cutting edge research in 10 different thematic areas and graduate significant number of students under the Joint Doctoral Degree Program.


  • Process of engagement

    The engagement between faculty members and students from IIT Kanpur and La Trobe University for Joint Doctoral Degree Program is through the following two step process:


    1. Expression of interest call:

      •  Faculty/Staff from IIT Kanpur and La Trobe University willing to participate in the collaborative research activities and joint student guidance are required to register as member of the Research Academy. To become Academy member, fill the Academy Membership Form
      •   A call for Expression of Interest will be opened periodically by the Research Academy for submitting joint proposals by faculty/staff members from the two institutions
      •   The proposals received within the given deadline will be reviewed by a separate committee formed by the academy who will also decide the selection criteria for the joint projects
      •   The faculty/staff members whose proposals are selected will be informed through email and will be asked to identify doctoral students to join the Joint Doctoral Degree Program on the already approved project theme areas

    2. Student Engagement:

      •   The faculty/staff members whose proposals have been selected on 10 different thematic areas will be published on the academy website
      •   The interested students already enrolled under the respective faculty/staff members can directly approach them to join the Joint Doctoral Degree Program
      •   The interested Ph.D. students of the two institutions not yet assigned supervisors may apply to join the Joint Doctoral Degree Program either through academy website or directly contacting the respective faculty/staff members
      •   Final acceptance of the students into the Joint Doctoral Degree Program will be managed by Academy Doctoral Advisory Committee following the norms of both the institutions.
