IITK – La Trobe University Research Academy Joint Ph.D. program

IIT Kanpur-La Trobe University Research Academy offers an excellent opportunity for doctoral students to carry out cutting edge research work, gain industry experience and have international exposure. Our students work with world-leading staff and state-of-the-art facilities at IIT Kanpur and La Trobe University, and graduate with a PhD awarded jointly from both institutions. Students are based at IIT Kanpur but will typically spend up to one year at a La Trobe University campus in Australia.

Students admitted into program are eligible to apply for a scholarship to support their studies which includes:

• A local stipend, subsidised food, living expenses and health care while resident at IIT Kanpur
• A stipend for up to one year while resident in Australia (2021 rate is AUD 28, 597 p.a.)
• A travel award, of up to AUD 1,000, to support travel and health cover costs while resident in Australia
• A La Trobe University Full-Fee Research Scholarship to cover tuition fees for up to four years for enrolment at La Trobe University

Prospective students and students already admitted in the PhD program at either IITK or La Trobe University are invited to apply for admission into the Joint Doctoral Degree Program by either contacting directly the faculty/staff supervising advertised projects or by applying directly the project of their choice using the form here

Students applying for entry into the program will meet the admission and selection criteria of both IIT Kanpur and La Trobe University. Applicants will be required to required to undertake an English Proficiency Test exam, such as TOEFL or IELTS exam.

Requirements of the Joint PhD are stipulated in a Joint PhD Agreement between the two institutions. If offered a place in the program you will be advised of the requirements.
